    Edit cuts

Change the boxes on this sheet. Confirm keeps the edits. Cancel puts the sheet back.

    Look around

The whole sheet stays on screen. Selecting a box only changes its outline. Scroll the mouse wheel to zoom. On a phone, pinch with two fingers. Slide across boxes to select them. Drag empty space, or use two fingers, to move the view. Reset size shows the whole sheet again.

    Select

A click on a box highlights that box. On a phone, a tap adds or removes it, and a slide across boxes selects a bunch. Gold means that cut can be edited. A box must be highlighted before you can move or resize it.

The small pictures under the sheet work the same as the main page. Click one to select it. Ctrl+click adds or removes one, and Shift+click marks a range. On a phone, tap a picture to add or remove it, and slide across pictures to select a bunch. Select all and Select none are shortcuts.

    Order and names

Drag a small picture on the bottom row to a new place. That changes its number. On a computer, drag the picture. On a phone, drag the number under it, or hold the picture and then drag it.

The cutter always shows the numbers so you can pick and edit. Saved files use the sheet name plus the number, like castle -1.png, unless Custom file names is on. Turn that on to type a name under a picture. That works on a phone too: tap the name box. A unique name stays as you typed it, like hero.png. If more than one picture uses the same name, the list adds -1, -2, -3, like sword -1.png. Pictures left out of the zip are not numbered. Reset order puts the numbers back the way they were after the first scan. It asks first. Undo takes one move back. Redo and Change history can put several moves back.

    Move and resize

After one box is highlighted, drag the middle to move the whole box. Drag an edge or a corner to resize. Move only works with one box selected. The selected box keeps the grab, even when other boxes sit close. Zoom in if two boxes are tight.

    Lock

Lock pins the selected boxes so they cannot be moved or resized. Their outline turns sky blue and dashed. Unlock lets you edit them again. Use this for leftover boxes that keep getting grabbed by accident.

    Buttons

New cut makes a new box, about the average size of the current cuts, then asks what number it should be. The new box is selected. If another box was highlighted, the new one appears near it.

Split across cuts one selected box in half, left and right. Split down cuts it top and bottom.

Merge turns two or more selected boxes into one box that covers them all. The earliest number stays. Undo and Redo can take that merge back. Leave out gap color is on by default, so the gap between those boxes is taken out of the merged picture and left empty or see-through. Turn that checkbox off on the selected pictures if you want to keep the gap color in them.

Keep with needs two cuts: a leftover and the sprite it belongs with. The leftover is not its own file.

Leave out keeps the selected cuts on screen with a dashed red outline, and they are not in the zip. Pass as is puts them in the zip as their own files, using the boxes you see now.

Undo and Redo step through your edits. Change history lists every change on this sheet and lets you undo back to any one of them. Revert puts the selected cuts back to the first scan.

    Leave out gap color

On by default for each picture. It takes this sheet's gap color out of the selected pictures, including after a merge, a new box, or a resize. A gap that reaches the edge of the picture is left see-through. A trapped speck of that color is filled with the color around it. Turn the checkbox off to keep the gap color in those pictures. You can change one picture, several, or all.

    Colors

Gold = selected. Red = cut. Cyan = new. Orange = split. Dashed red = left out of the zip. Sky dashed = locked. Green = kept with another. Purple = pass as is.

    Change history

Newest first. Undo to here puts the sheet back to before that change. The same list is used on the main page and in Edit cuts.

Reset the numbers to the original order?

Puts the pictures back in the order from the first scan. New cuts stay at the end. Undo can take this back.

    Revert selected sprites to original?

Put the selected sprites back to the way they were when this sheet was scanned. Other sprites stay as they are. Undo can bring these edits back.

    Excluded cuts

These were cut apart by mistake and put back into the larger picture. They are not their own files. They still go in the zip, inside that larger picture. A dashed red outline on the sheet is different: that cut stays in place but is left out of the zip.

    Sprite Cutter

A sprite sheet is one picture that holds many smaller pictures, like characters, items, or tiles. This tool cuts them apart and saves each one as its own file. The work happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

    Add pictures

Use Add sheets, Add folder, or drop files onto the page. PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, and AVIF work. The Windows app can also open TIFF and HEIC.

    Cut them apart

The gap color is the empty color between the pictures. Default puts it back to magenta, #ff00ff. This sheet only keeps another gap color on one file. Use default makes that sheet follow the color at the top again. Pick from sheet takes the color you click.

Scan all counts the pieces on every sheet. Open one sheet when you want to see the preview. Output size makes the saved pictures bigger, from 1x to 4x, without blurring the pixels. Custom file names lets you type a name under each picture.

    Save

Export downloads one zip. Zip name is optional and only names that download, like FF1.zip. Each sheet is its own zip inside that file, named FF1 - castle.zip. Leave Zip name blank for sprite sheets.zip and castle.zip. The pictures inside still use numbers, like castle -1.png, unless Custom file names is on. Exclude keeps the original picture and does not cut it. The browser keeps older downloads. It will not replace a file you already have unless you choose that in the save window.

    Look and pick

The main screen is for looking and picking. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Drag to look around. Reset size shows the whole sheet.

Click a cut or a picture on the bottom row. Ctrl+click adds another, and Shift+click marks a range. Gold means selected. On a phone, tap a cut to add or remove it, and slide across cuts to select a bunch.

A check on a picture means it is its own file in the zip. Click the check to leave it out. Leave out of zip does the same for the selection. Pass as is keeps a cut as its own file. Quick merge joins two or more highlighted pictures into one box. Undo takes back the last change, including a number move. Change history lists every change and lets you undo back to any one of them. Edit cuts opens a larger window to change boxes. That window has its own Help, and Redo.

    Order and names

Drag a small picture on the bottom row to a new place. That changes its number, and the number on the saved file. On a computer, drag the picture itself. On a phone, drag the number under it, or hold the picture and then drag it.

The cutter always shows the numbers so you can pick, drag, and edit. With Custom file names off, each saved file uses the sheet name plus that number, like castle -1.png. With it on, type a name under the picture. That works on a phone too: tap the name box. A unique name is saved as you typed it, like hero.png. If several pictures share a name, they become sword -1.png, sword -2.png, and so on. Pictures left out of the zip do not get a number. Reset order puts the numbers back the way they were after the first scan. It asks first. Zip name does not change these numbers.

    Where sheets come from

Use pictures you drew or exported yourself. A large public collection of game sprites is The Spriters Resource.

Very large sheets can be slow on a phone. The page warns you first. The Windows app is the better choice for those.
